FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO CREATE EMPLOYMENT

THROUGH WASTE MANAGEMENT

 

The Minister of Environment, Mr. John Odey has described waste management as profitable commercial venture which the present administration intends to harness to create employment opportunities for unemployed Nigerians.

 

The Minister stated this while on a working visit to the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, NIPRD, to asses the level of work on the Medical Waste Incinerator donated to the Institute by the Federal Ministry of Environment.

 

He was impressed that the Medical Waste incinerator was fabricated by Nigerians. Mr. Odey gave the assurance that the Incinerator will be commissioned soon and handed over to the Federal Capital Territory just as the work has neared completion.

 

The Minister stressed that sustainable environmental management is a long process which involves partnership between the Federal, State, local government and private entrepreneurs. He therefore promised that all the issues raised on the medical waste Incinerator will be looked into.

 

The Director General of National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development NIPRD expressed regret that the project had not been commissioned since last year and wants it to be commissioned as soon as possible.

 

The DG noted that the Incinerator is supposed to serve the Federal Capital Territory, industrial waste at National Hospital and other facilities were biomedical waste are kept and incinerated. He was however happy that with the coming of the Minister to inspect the state of the project it will soon be commissioned. >> [ HOME ]
